Transit Moving Systems is a poorly run, borderline fraudulent business that engages in deceptive business practices to get your business before turning your life upside down. They also claim to be a moving company and not a moving broker. This is a lie. Our goods were delivered by a subcontracted foreman who told us he is not an employee of Transit Moving Systems. We were suckered into the program by a scam artist named Mike Miranda who not once, but TWICE gave us insanely lowball estimates for our move. He lured us in with an over-the-phone inventory/estimate nearly two months before our move and did not contact us again until the week prior to our pack out. At that time, we did a "virtual estimate walkthrough” where the price increased by nearly $3,000. They know this timeline will help trap customers into not being able to pivot to another company. The price then increased again the day of pickup. This company "eyeballs" the cubic feet and does not actually measure your inventory. They do not price by weight, so you never get a genuine, data-supported estimate. We now know charging by cubic feet is an IMMEDIATE red flag! You are entitled to certain rights regulated by the Department of Transportation when being charged by weight, but not when being charged by cubic feet. On the packing day, the movers showed up at a time later than the three hour window we were originally given, resulting in the inability to complete the pack out in one day. The foreman kept telling us how much he and the crew wanted to be done and go home. They did not finish the load on the first day, adjusted the size estimate by an additional 680 cu ft (!) and changed the price FOR A THIRD TIME that increased our cost by another $3,000. The foreman demanded that I sign the revised estimate and bill of lading documents before he loaded any more of our goods onto the truck and after advising us the crew would not be able to finish the job that day. He insisted the documents had to be signed before the load was complete because he wasn’t going to be around the following day when the crew finished. The crew showed up the following day in a rented U-Haul truck, which did not allow us to get a good eye for the actual size of our household goods shipment. The foreman did not show up the second day, was lazy to the point of irritating his own crew, and did not make detailed notes on the inventory/bill of lading, leading to some frustration on delivery (more on that below). We visited the warehouse where our goods were stored because the movers left several items at our house and we had to hand-deliver them to make sure they were packed with the rest of our goods. This was the first time we were able to see the entirety of our household goods packed together. The spaces for loads were clearly marked by size in the warehouse, and we could see that our goods did not fill the space we were allotted in the warehouse (2,000 cu ft.) which was nearly 300 cu ft less than the revised estimate we were given on moving day. We took pictures and contacted Customer Service to request a revision to our estimate. After several days with no resolution, as our goods missed their initial window for departure, a Customer Resolution Representative responded to our request with a lower cubic footage estimate that was still about 400 cubic feet higher than our walk-through estimate the week before moving day. Communication throughout the entire process was abysmal. “Customer service” reps were unresponsive, rude, condescending, and at times outright lied to me and my wife about the status of our move, location of our goods, and more. They also appear to be advised to not leave voicemails for fear of compiling evidence against them for claims and lawsuits. They are deeply untrustworthy at every step of the process. We were informed the day before delivery at our new house that they would not be able to deliver to our house and wanted to charge us an additional $1,800 dollars to make good on the contract we signed with them. We eventually wound up meeting them in a lot with a U-haul where we had to load and offload our household goods ourselves so we could shuttle our goods home in multiple trips. The driver and the two gentlemen, who are subcontractors and not employees of Transit, who delivered to our new home destination were great and nice to work with. I think they felt bad about our circumstance. As for the goods themselves- everything we packed ourselves was in pretty good condition upon arrival. Unfortunately, the furniture that was packed by Transit for us was significantly damaged. Some pieces were just superficially damaged, but our dining room table and entertainment center were essentially broken in half. If you don’t pay an extra $2000 for full valuation insurance on your goods, you will not be able to recoup the cost of any broken or missing goods because their liability insurance pays sixty cents for pound per item. They have no incentive to treat your items with care. Please, if you’re reading this, do not give them the time of day. Go with a company with a good reputation. These scam artists will not save you time or money, and they will offer you zero peace of mind. It’s just an all around miserable experience that will add a great deal of stress to an already stressful time in your life. There is a reason they have an F with the Better Business Bureau. The company is based out of Texas but operates in many other states (we were in Colorado) and has no actual office staff in their satellite locations from what I can tell. You can ignore the 5-star reviews on the sites they send you to when they tell you they’re “not on the Better Business Bureau website” - other reviewers have noted that they offer discounts to customers who leave them 5-star reviews, so consider those as paid (and dishonest) reviews. They are the worst company I have ever worked with in any capacity and I can’t believe we paid $12,000 for such a miserable, frustrating, unprofessional experience.
