We spoke extensively with Raymond to get an accurate estimate of the moving costs. This included several hours on the phone listing the size, number and list of all pieces of furniture and boxes to be moved. A nonrefundable $5660.00 down payment was required. When the movers arrived they immediately raised the price another $7000 OVER the estimate citing the total cubic footage, saying they would need two trucks to move all the items. At no point was the number or list of items disputed, but they stated that Raymond had gotten the cubic footage wrong. At that time I contacted Michelle who identified herself as the manager. She stated she would look into the cubic footage issue and the drastic price increase with the movers and would get back to me in 24-48 hours. I was told if we cancelled the move we would NOT get the down payment back in spite of the drastically increased price of services. Michelle, nor anyone from Safe Ship at any point followed up with why the cubic footage or the price was so different despite multiple phone calls. The few people I spoke to stated they would forward my questions on to management but I have never received a reply from the company. Once they had our money they completely disappeared. When another team of movers arrived to unload the items there was only one truck that was half full. These movers stated the cubic footage was not close to what the initial team claimed. Multiple items were broken in transit, including glassware, improperly packed (by the initial movers) furniture, lamps and tables. Items packed by the movers (pictures) never arrived. I understand that the price of a move may change and certainly expected some change in price from the initial estimate, but raising the price $7000 on the day of the move is predatory. In addition, the initial movers stated that Safe Ship often engages in these dishonest business practices to “lock in” the non-refundable downpayment, knowing that what they quoted is inaccurate.

Relocating with safe ship is stress-free, and enjoyable in every way. There were no problems because the delivery guy kept in touch with me during my move. They will always be my first choice, not only because they can do it but because they do it effectively. Thank you!
