Extra space

Who doesn’t need some? Think about it. Yes, you need some too. People tend to collect more and more things over the years. And so do you. First, you fill your kitchen cabinets. Then – your closets. Right after closet comes the attic or basement. You try to declutter – you fail. And how can you throw away your wedding presents? It is okay to be sentimental a bit!

There are many things in our houses that we don’t really use. Or we do – once a year. But, it is not easy to say goodbye to some of these items. Safety is quite important

Many people fear the unknown, and sending their precious belongings to the storage facility seems like a risky idea, but – it’s really not! Most, if not all, storage facilities are equipped with high-tech surveillance these days. And, if that is not enough for you – many storage companies offer 24/7 security guards. So, don’t worry nothing bad can happen.

Another important aspect is the state of the unit you are planning on renting. In order to keep your belongings safe at all times, you will have to find a storage unit in good condition. It doesn’t have to be state of the art unit, but it needs to be temperature controlled, dry and with good air conditioning system in place.

Cons of renting a self storage unit

Just like every other aspect of our lives – renting a self storage unit has some cons. But – what are they?

  • Affordability
  • Accessibility
  • Location

These three key factors don’t have to be a reason for you to give up on your idea of renting a storage unit, but they often are – and for many people. Why? Affordability, accessibility, and location depend on each other. How? Keep on reading!

Affordability, accessibility and location really are closely related

Let’s start from the end. Location. If the storage facility of your choosing is located outside the city lines – it will be much cheaper, but harder to reach. And if you need 24/7 access to your belongings this option is probably not the best choice for you. And, another con is that this aspect never changes. It is same all over America – so your moving to Tennessee won’t change a thing.

Accessibility. There are many storage companies that offer 24/7 access – but this option comes with a price. And, as you can see – it directly affects the affordability of the storage unit you are planning on renting.

And, finally – Affordability. The further away you go from the city center – the lower price you will get. But – your belongings won’t be so accessible. However, if you are planning on long-term storing – you don’t need all that access.

Think about it twice

The smartest thing you can do is to think twice and plan everything ahead. It doesn’t matter if you are planning on storing your items right before you move, or if you just need some extra space. Renting a self storage unit is a solution to your problems. But – you will need to come prepared for it. Plan your budget and your inventory. Make a list of things you are planning on storing, and keep it with you even after you send your belongings to the storage unit. Find some packing guidelines and follow them. Take every precaution, and you won’t have to worry about anything. Also, if you need some additional confirmation –  ask if there are any insurance options coming with your deal. And – that’s it. Once you decide to move or reorganize your living/working space – you will be able to!
