Never use Empire Moving Group brokers (not a moving company)! We have had a nightmare of a moving experience with them. The Empire salesman, Eric Kramer, is a smooth, fast-talker who tells you what you want to hear to get you to sign up right away. First, they low-balled a moving cost estimate based only on an inventory of goods collected by phone, to make it sound like they were less costly than the actual professional movers. Then they charged us a $2,000 “binding estimate fee / processing fee” which was added to the charges per cubic foot of space needed for the furniture and boxes, plus a large fuel surcharge. They told us we would be contacted a week before the moving date, to adjust the inventory if necessary. We did then remove some items from the inventory and added a few boxes, the addition totaling about $200 worth at their stated rate of $3.50 per cubic foot. Instead, they charged us over $800 for the additions, then tacked on an additional “binding estimate fee / processing fee” of $1,000, now totaling $3,000! (Apparently, the “binding estimate” was only binding for us, not them!) We spoke with Robert (no last name), Empire’s “quality “manager, objecting to the additional charges and trying to get them to remove the extra $1,000 fee; Robert was downright rude, just repeating his incomprehensible spiel (something about taxes and extra surcharges) over and over even though it made no sense to us. After numerous attempts, Eric and Robert eventually refused to return our phone calls. We had already paid a $1,700+ nonrefundable deposit, so we were stuck. Empire subcontracts the actual moving to someone else, who was Moving Hub for us. That company loaded the truck carefully and with protective furniture pads and packing. However, our “stuff” was off-loaded at the Moving Hub warehouse and moved to a beat-up junk of an 18-wheeler truck, which was not an actual smooth-riding moving van, during which some furniture lost its furniture pads and protection resulting in much gouging of our furniture and the actual breakage (totally shattered!) of a $200 glass table-top which we had paid extra for the movers to package. During the offloading, 3 of our metal garage shelves were taken apart, shelves bent beyond repair, and pieces lost so they were not salvageable. Apparently, the offloading and reloading were done very roughly and carelessly, with stuff thrown around and not adequately protected, resulting in the damage cited and several crushed boxes. Also, the actual cubic footage ended up way higher (30% higher!) than the estimates, resulting in even more exorbitant additional charges. At our destination, Moving Hub hired another local mover to unload us. These people had never seen our stuff before and didn’t know how to put the furniture back together, and didn’t do some of the reassembling properly. They were upset because our delivery didn’t arrive until late afternoon and by the time they unloaded the truck, they said they just wanted to go home, so they rushed through everything. They were moving quickly and carelessly through the doorways, resulting in 4-5 gouges in the walls and door frames. Never contract with Empire Moving Group or Moving Hub! Call professional movers directly and get an actual in-home visit to assess the inventory and get an accurate estimate.

This company will pretend to be an actual moving company when they are actually a broker. They will give you a quote and then once they get there charge you more. They ignore your calls, texts and will hang up on you. They are also extremely disrespectful. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!

Not at the top of the list! The movers showed up as scheduled but insisted that there would be additional costs for packing, which I agreed to, but had understood that was part of the service. After they were done, I realized that they had left a full closet and numerous items left in the house that were supposed to be taken. Upon speaking with the customer service person, instead of listening to my concerns, she spoke over me and argued with me the entire call. She insisted that because packing up my items was not part of the service that was to be provided, the packers could pick and choose what they packed and what they didn't. This is not customer service. This is someone that had my stuff that I just can't argue too much with because they have my stuff. The two gentlemen that unpacked and staged my items were terrific! Kay and Tyrell were the best part of this move. And although their paperwork says, "Before signing check shipment, count items and describe loss or damage..." I was made to sign the paperwork and pay the remainder of the charges before the driver would even open the door to the truck to unload it. He explained to me that this was the company policy. I have yet to hear back from a representative about things that were missing that were neither on the inventory sheet or in my possession after the move was completed.

Worst move of my life. Lost items and broken items. They subbed out the moving from Texas to Alabama. Jacked the price up twice. 1500 than 2000. Horrible company stay away!!

Empire did an amazing job with my move. I had a 4 bedroom house going from SC to NC and the roads were a bit tricky so I didnt want to do the move myself. Empire also helped with organizing the timings of some things so that I could grab my keys right around the time they were arriving so that nothing would be held up. They were awesome!
